Perm hosts the Russian Cities Union Board

In 2023 , the  year of its 300^th  anniversary,  Perm  hosts the extended Board session  of the  Union of  Russian Cities. It is attended by about 60 participants, including leaders of the country’s largest cities, from Krasnodar and Stavropol to Tyumen, as well as representatives of federal structures.   

On January 20, 2023 Perm is hosting an important All-Russian event - an extended Board session  of the   Union of Russian Cities. The  city has become an expert platform for the exchange of experience in municipal management throughout Russia.  The  session participants include  leaders of the largest cities of the country, from Krasnodar and Stavropol to Tyumen, as well as representatives of various federal structures. 

Dmitry Makhonin, Governor of the Perm Region, addressed the event participants with a welcome speech. He noted that Perm this year marks the 300th anniversary, so it is especially important for the capital city of the region  to receive such a representative delegation of the leaders of the Russia’s largest and most developed cities  and  to show the transformations  the city experienced  by the anniversary date.

– Over the past few years, together with the  colleagues  from Perm City Administration we have been preparing for the jubilee of the Perm Region’s  capital;  large-scale reconstruction of public spaces has been carried out, great attention has been paid to the preservation of architectural heritage, the development of public transport. We are ready to share our experience and learn from other cities. Thank you all for taking the time to come to Perm. I am pleased to invite everyone to take part in the program of anniversary events. This year, the capital of the Perm Region will host a whole series of nationwide events, such as  the «Russian Students’ Spring»,  the international forum «Russia, the sports  nation» and the Russian Half-Marathon Cup within the framework of the large-scale Perm Marathon, - said Dmitry Makhonin.

 The Board session was also addressed by the Mayor of Perm Aleksey Demkin.

–  In recent years, our city has presented itself  as a dynamically developing million-populated city of Russia.  Perm has a lot of experience useful for other cities of the country in a variety of areas - transport development, parking policy, landscaping practice, municipal-private partnership, high level of school education, projects in the field of culture. Under  modern conditions, all Russian megacities need to build sustainable business and social ties. Exchange of experience, information openness motivate city authorities to develop their territories, make them more convenient and modern for residents. I appreciate  the Board of the Union of Russian Cities for their trust and organizational assistance in arranging the session, - said Aleksey Demkin.

According to the President of the Union of Russian Cities, the Mayor of  Tyumen,  Ruslan Kukharuk, Perm was chosen as a platform for experience exchange  as it is an active participant of the Union of Russian Cities, as well as a municipality that is currently  developing very fast.

During the extended meeting of the Governing Board of the Union of Russian Cities the heads of various municipalities presented reports on the urban infrastructure modernization projects,  transport and logistics framework of cities as a key factor in the quality of life, development and implementation of the “Russia’s Heroes Alleys” programme   and the “Circular Economy” federal project  and prospects of concession agreements in the social sphere.

Mayor of Perm Aleksey Demkin  presented  the plans   to modernize the tram network  under investment projects. Perm was included into the list of 10 city agglomerations that launched  renewal of electric transport  with the support of the federal budget.

In addition, participants of the extended Board session  visited a number of facilities renovated or built for the 300th anniversary of Perm.
